The thirteenth season of Barney & Friends premiered on the PBS children's block, PBS Kids from September 7[1]-18, 2009, and consisted of ten episodes. This season continues to display Barney coming to life through a child's imagination, whenever he is needed for something, helping his friends, through educational themes.

This season focused on the theme of "Friends and Family Around the World".[1] In each episode, Barney and his friends travel to various countries, using Barney's Travel Book, to experience having fun with new friends from different cultures. Other than the "Barney Theme Song" and "I Love You", the song, "Here We Go Again", appeared in every episode in this season, emphasizing that they're traveling around the world.

This season brings back most of the main kid characters from the previous season, and Ben joins the cast after his first appearance in the home video, Celebrating Around The World. Also joining the cast from this season are: Connor, Kioko, Eli, Natalia, and Rusty.

This was the final season before major changes took place, including the setting, casting and show production, and also the first season to be filmed in HD.

The home video, Barney's Worldwide Adventure!, features seven episodes from this season for content as well as the release of Big World Adventure containing new material.
