Educational Theme: Protect our Earth
After performing their live concert, Adam's mother takes the Backyard Gang to a TV studio where she works. While there; Barney and the Backyard Gang tour the studio on their own, while producing their own show. From a cereal commercial set, a puppet show, the six little ducks, meeting new friends, teddy bears, the US flag, an island paradise, and a makeup place to a jungle while the show is filmed along with many props in the studio. Trivia[]
- This video was originally a Neiman Marcus exclusive, as part of their Barney Boutique.
- As part of this partnership, the video had several local premieres in the Dallas area. By being an In-Circle Club member, Neiman Marcus customers were able to purchase packages that included a theater viewing of the video.
- On the producers' slate, it has the name Barney & Friends, which happens to be the name of the TV show, Barney & Friends, in production in 1991, but aired on PBS in a year later.
- Michael and Amy's Dad is mentioned in this video.
- Throughout this video, it's noticeable that Amy (Becky Swonke) is slightly fatigued and looks a little sickly in some scenes and her voice had changed since the previous episodes. It's most likely that she caught her illness (most likely brain tumor as mentioned in some resources) not long after this was filmed. This is the reason for this being her last appearance as she became ill before Barney and Friends began filming in October 1991 and why she had to leave the Barney franchise. In addition, this video was released a month before that television series began filming.
Goofs[]
- During the beginning of "Yankee Doodle Dandy", when Barney jumps, his patriotic hat slips off his head a little bit then sits back perfectly on his head throughout the song.
- Rickey Carter (Derek) is uncredited for this video.
- Towards the end of Yankee Doodle Dandy, Barney looks downs for a few seconds and looks back up.
- Throughout this video, Tina wears her hair in a ponytail while during "Yankee Doodle Dandy", her ponytail is braided.
- In the song Me and My Teddy, during the school verse, Kathy says "I got to leave him at home by himself all alone". However, when the first three seasons of Barney & Friends (all of which used the school set) starting filming, Kathy brings her teddy often in most of her appearances on the latter show.
- When the kids are picking their things up as they're leaving the studio, Adam's books can be seen falling down as he picks his backpack up.
Occurrences[]
- This video marks:
- The final time the Backyard Gang version of the "Barney Theme Song" is used.
- The very first and only video to have the Backyard Gang shout Barney's name to bring him alive rather than singing "I Love You" or wishing really hard like in previous home videos.
- The final appearances of Amy and Adam. In the TV show, they are replaced by Min and Shawn, respectively.
- The first appearance of Kathy who would later become a regular cast member for the first three seasons of Barney & Friends.
- The only appearances of AJ, Joseph, Jennifer, and Adam's Mother. In the TV show, the latter child character was written off from the video series and she was replaced by Tosha.
- The only time Kathy appears with Amy and Adam.
- The final appearance of the prototype Season 1 Barney costume.
- The final appearance of the 1990-1991 Barney doll.
- The final time Baby Bop is performed by Dao Knight. Jenny Dempsey would take over the role in season one of Barney & Friends, when it was filmed in late 1991.
- The final time Derek is never seen wearing glasses.
- The first time, as well as the only Backyard Gang video, where "I Love You" was not performed even though it was used as an underscore when Barney comes to life and when he and Baby Bop are saying goodbye to the kids.
- The first time Barney comes to life on-screen completely.
- The first time Barney wears something else for when he comes to life, in this case being a t-shirt.
- The second time where the Barney doll does not wink at the end after Barney Goes To School. Instead, when the kids and Adam's mother leave the studio, the camera zooms in to where the donkey prop is, and the donkey winks.
