Development of Let's Make Music began in 2005. The crew of Barney & Friends approached series writer Cheryl Ammeter to inquire if she would write a home video that would take place at a fair. This video was originally titled Barney's Fantastic Fun-Fair. While continuing to be written during production, it was re-titled to Trying On Dreams before finally being titled to Let's Make Music. The video was considered to be a movie during development, but it was eventually decided to stay as a Barney Home Video. Let's Make Music originally focused on a boy named Miles, however the crew decided that the main character should be a girl rather than a boy, who eventually became Melanie. Initially in the script, Baby Bop was afraid to ride a roller coaster, however, given that the crew couldn't get a roller coaster on set, it was switched to become a ferris wheel.

Writing[]

Around this time, Carter Crocker became the head writer for Barney & Friends. During rewrites for the video, Ammeter would share ideas with Crocker and vice-versa, further going back and forth with ideas.[2] Ammeter suggested that Carter be credited given the amount of support he gave to Ammeter when writing the script.

Filming[]

Filming for Let's Make Music occurred in October 2005 at Frisco Commons Park in Frisco, Texas and Bob Woodruff Park in Plano, Texas, marking another Barney video to filmed on location.
