- April 1: A Barney themed attraction opens at Alton Towers in Staffordshire, England.
- June 10 & 17: Dancin' In The Aisles, a satellite show featuring Barney and The Wiggles aired at 2PM EST in Walmart stores in the home entertainment department.
- August 5: The Barney balloon from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade appears at the opening of Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, TX.
- September 16: Barney's Open House begins touring at the Northtown Mall in Blaine, Minnesota.
- September: Barney's Great Adventure opens in theaters throughout Greece.[1]
- October 16: Restaurant Sbarro's begins a campaign that runs through the end of the year offering Barney-themed kids' meals with coloring books and coupons for Barney merchandise at Sam Goody/Suncoast, Waldenbooks and Kaybee Toys.
- November 4: Barney's Open House ends its tour at the Collin Creek Mall in Plano, Texas.
- November 23: Barney, Baby Bop, and BJ perform a Christmas Medley at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
- December 5: Barney visits Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis in Wichita, KS as a part of the Barney's Musical Castle tour.[2]

- January: The product line Barney for Baby is released to stores.
- September: Toronto-based Colgate Palmolive Canada Inc. began promoting the Musical Cap Barney toothpaste with in-store displays and a print advertising push in professional trade publications.[3]
- The singing toothpaste is designed for kids in the 2- to 6-years-old age group. When opened, the toothpaste tube plays a Barney song for seventy seconds with the intention of encouraging kids to brush their teeth for a full minute, with ten extra seconds allowed for kids to apply the toothpaste to their toothbrushes. Musical Cap Barney was available nationwide in drug stores, mass merchandisers and grocery stores. In-store displays were being supported with print ads in CDA Journal, Oral Health magazine and Oral Care Report. Advertising was created by the Armstrong Partnership Ltd. of Toronto. Public relations supporting the launch was handled by Polaris Public Relations of Toronto.
