The following is an overview of Barney-related news and events that occurred in the year 1992.
Events[]
- January 16: Barney makes an appearance at Gateway Learning Center for an open house in Arlington, Texas.[1]
- March 28: The world premiere of Barney & Friends takes place in the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. This event included a sing along with Barney, Baby Bop and the kids, as well as a screening of "The Treasure Of Rainbow Beard".
- Unknown: the beginning of Barney Mania.
- July 26-28: Children were able to meet Barney and take photos with him. Barney prize drawings were held daily.[2]
- Barney was available from 11AM to 1PM and 3PM to 5PM on Sunday, July 26.
- Barney was available from 1PM to 4PM on Monday, July 27.
- Barney was available from 12PM to 4PM on Tuesday, July 28.
- October 1-December 20: To promote JCPenney's Barney Spot boutiques, Barney toured malls across the US.[3][4]

- January 27: Rock with Barney has a wide release in stores.
- August 2: Barney's Magical Musical Adventure is released, exclusively at JCPenney.
- September 2: Barney's Birthday is released to stores.
Merchandise[]
- January: The Lyons Group forms a licensing division after striking a deal with JC Penney, which agrees to open Barney shops in its 1,600 stores nationwide.[5]
- December: It's confirmed that in February, Hasbro will be introducing Barney toys to its Playskool line.[6]

- November: Just Imagine with Barney is released, initially as a JCPenney exclusive.
- December 29: Barney appears in People Magazine as one of the "Most Intriguing People of 1992"

- April 6: The television show Barney & Friends debuted on PBS.
- May 15: Season one finale of Barney & Friends on PBS.
- June 2: PBS officially announced that it would not fund a second season of Barney & Friends, thus cancelling the show. Lyons, through the Barney Fan Club, begins a campaign to keep Barney on the air.
- July 30: Barney appears on Good Morning America.
- August 19: PBS announced that it would fund a second season of Barney & Friends.
